Join a Together We Can Do More Team in the Bay Area!
Over 57,000 individuals in the Bay Area with developmental disabilities worry daily about housing. It’s a national crisis that most are unaware of, receiving little public funding or community attention. 70% of adult children live with aging parents, with no plan for future housing. Individuals are directly discriminated against in housing; 55% of all fair housing complaints are related to disability, more than any other minority group. Individuals are priced out of both affordable and market rate housing. The need only increases with growing populations and longer life expectancies of people with disabilities.
Additionally, there is a notable absence of cross sector collaboration surrounding affordable and inclusive housing. We know there are individuals and entities outside of the disability housing and service sector who have the resources to meaningfully address this challenge in our region, but few have been engaged as partners to develop new solutions.
That’s where you come in! The Kelsey is building regional teams of diverse stakeholders to collaborate and develop inclusive housing in the Bay Area and beyond. Together, we can do more! The Kelsey seeks thoughtful and committed individuals who share our passion for creating inclusive communities. Involvement includes participation in 4 stakeholder workshops in your region between now and October 2018 and optional additional events. If you are interested in working alongside us, please complete this brief survey and we'll followup. We thank you for your time and interest!
